Transition from Queen’s Counsel to King’s Counsel

After the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia has announced the following details related to the Queen’s Counsel designation:

  • All patents of Queen’s Counsel remain in effect, however QC’s have automatically become KC’s.
  • The patent of a Queen’s Counsel creates an office at the pleasure of the Crown.  

The Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society is currently updating its records to reflect the automatic change from QC to KC
