Originally shared August 8, 2023: As we begin our strategic planning process, we want to share some of the issues informing the next phase of our work at the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society.
The difficult decision to withdraw from the July 20, 2024 Halifax Pride Parade was made operationally, under our duty as an employer to ensure the health and safety of our employees.
The Hearing Committee of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society (the “Society”) will hold a hearing, at a date and time to be determined, respecting charges against Donn Fraser, a member of the Society.
The Society charges Donn Fraser, of Stellarton, Nova Scotia with professional misconduct and conduct unbecoming in that he breached provisions of the Code of Professional Conduct (the “Code”), and the Legal Profession Act (the “Act”) and the Regulations made thereunder.
As we seek to fill vacancies connected to Professional Responsibility, we are focusing on recruiting from among Indigenous, African Nova Scotian, and racialized communities.
The Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society invites lawyers to provide feedback on the Federation of Law Societies of Canada’s (FLSC’s) Model Code Standing Committee’s proposed Code amendments in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Call to Action 27.
The CBA-NS branch, together with the NSBS, made the difficult decision to withdraw from the July 20 Halifax Pride Parade. We want to provide the context behind this decision.
