Board Member – Nova Scotia College of Early Childhood Education

NSCECE was established in 1970 as the first early childhood education (ECE) training program in Atlantic Canada. We are ECE specialists and are viewed as thought leaders in the early years community.
With operations covering the full ECE lifecycle from diploma to early learning centres to on-going professional development, NSCECE practices what we teach, creating a nurturing environment where children and learners can reach their full potential. We are the largest grantor of early childhood diplomas and certificates in Atlantic Canada and one of the largest operators of not-for-profit child care centres in Nova Scotia.

An Exciting Time for This Sector:

In July 2021, the Nova Scotia and federal governments signed the CWELCCA which will inject $605M into our sector over five years. This investment reflects a newfound awareness of the value and importance of this work. The goal of this agreement is to build a community-based system of quality, regulated Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC), aimed at giving all families access to high-quality, affordable, flexible and inclusive early learning and child care no matter where they live. To achieve this goal, Nova Scotia will add 9,500 new child care spaces and reduce the cost to an average of $10 per day. This will drive transformational change in this critical sector that provides children with the best possible start in life and enables women to return to the workforce. It’s an exciting time to be part of this sector!
