Atlantic Motions Advocacy

Join us for a candid discussion with The Hon. Justice Denise M. Boudreau on what’s expected of counsel in a contested motion and an opportunity to get on your (virtual) feet and practise making submissions. This workshop is your chance to refine your motions advocacy skills in a supportive environment.  You will be asked to prepare and present a slice of a motion submission on behalf of either the plaintiff or the defendant.  You will then get practical, individualized feedback on your performance from an experienced local litigator.  You will also learn from your peers as you work through the interactive exercise in small groups.

Please note that the workshop requires advance preparation based on a mock case file, which will be provided to you in advance of the workshop. Please ensure that you set aside enough time to prepare for the workshop, which may take up to a half-day to prepare for, depending on your level of experience.

You will:

  • Receive tips on how to succeed at contested motions
  • Learn what is and what is not effective in motions court
  • Practise making motion submissions in a safe learning environment
  • Receive immediate feedback tailored to your strengths and weaknesses

Program Chairs:
Peter C. McVey, QC, Cox & Palmer
