The Opportunity
Would you like to serve on the board of an organization with a deep sense of purpose? One that helps shape how children see themselves and the world around them? Are you interested in strengthening your board governance experience while helping guide a sector undergoing significant transformation?
If so, we’d love to hear from you
Who We Are
The Nova Scotia College of Early Childhood Education (NSCECE) is a not-for-profit college that graduates the largest number of Early Childhood Educators (ECEs) and Early Childhood Assistants (ECAs) in Atlantic Canada.
We also operate six licensed child care centres serving more than 350 families across Nova Scotia, giving us the unique opportunity to practice what we teach while serving as leaders in the early learning sector.
A Sector in Transformation
The Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement (CWELCCA) invested more than $605 million into Nova Scotia’s early learning sector, transforming child care and educator training.
Over the past five years, NSCECE increased annual graduates by 375% and expanded child care services by 250%. A new federal agreement worth more than $1 billion is now being negotiated, creating another period of significant growth and change.
What’s the Ask?
We’re looking for community-minded individuals to join the NSCECE Board of Directors and contribute their professional expertise. Board members serve three-year terms on a policy governance board that provides strategic direction, financial oversight, and accountability. The Board meets five times per year, with members typically serving on one committee that meets approximately eight times annually. We’re particularly interested in individuals with experience in:
- Law
- Government or regulated environments
- Board governance
- Education or early learning
We also welcome applicants with other skills and perspectives that would strengthen our Board.
