The NSBS Nominating Committee nominates lawyer Rob Kennedy, KC, as the Society’s Second Vice-President for the 2026/2027 Council year.
“Rob brings a wealth of experience, and his steady, thoughtful demeanour will make him an outstanding Second Vice-President and future President of the NSBS,” says Acting President / First Vice-President Candee McCarthy.
“Rob has consistently been an engaged council member; he’s always well prepared and measured in his decision making. I look forward to continuing to work alongside Rob. Council and the society are fortunate that he has stepped forward to take on this important leadership role.”
In making its nomination, the Nominating Committee seeks integrity, respect for others, leadership and communication skills, strategic thinking, and consensus building amongst their candidates. The Society strives for diversity of leadership with respect to personal characteristics, areas of practice, and geographic location.
Rob Kennedy Biography

Rob Kennedy, KC, is Senior Crown Counsel with the Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service (PPS). He graduated from Saint Mary’s University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Dalhousie Law School in 2008 with a Bachelor of Laws. He was admitted to the Nova Scotia Bar in June 2009. Rob received his Kings Counsel designation in February 2025.
Rob has been with the PPS for over 15 years. He is currently assigned to the Special Prosecutions Section, where he prosecutes major cases throughout the province and conflict files throughout Atlantic Canada. He is a frequent presenter on criminal law topics to lawyers, judges, students, and law enforcement.
Rob has served on Bar Council since 2023. He also sits on the Credentials and Executive Committees, and the Canadian Centre for Professional Legal Education Appeal Committee.
Since 2017, Rob has been an adjunct professor in the Criminology Department at Saint Mary’s University, teaching Criminal Law as well as Sexualized Violence. He previously taught Business Law at Acadia University from 2012 to 2017. He is a faculty member of the Halifax Regional Police Cadet Program.
Rob has been very involved in the local soccer community for most of his life. He is a member of the Soccer Nova Scotia Board of Directors, Governance Committee, the Discipline and Appeals Committee, and chairs the Ethics Committee. He has coached with soccer club Suburban FC and Armbrae Academy. He refereed soccer for over 20 years, officiating many national tournaments throughout Canada.
Nominations Open for Second Vice-President
Aligned with NSBS Regulations, additional practising lawyers may be nominated for Second Vice-President over the two-week period, following the announcement of the Nomination Committee’s nominee.
Practising lawyers have until March 17, 2026 to make an alternative nomination by:

- A brief expression of interest
- A brief resume
- A completed Skills Matrix
