In ceremonies held on June 17th at the Halifax Law Courts, 84 new individuals were admitted to the Nova Scotia Bar, with six being domestic transfers.
The six ceremonies were split between two time slots, with three ceremonies taking place simultaneous at each time.
This year Justice Christa M. Brother, Justice Mona Lynch, and Justice Glen G. McDougall presided over the various ceremonies, with Candee McCarthy (NSBS President), Patricia Jones (NSBS Second Vice-President), and Robert Kennedy KC acting as presenting officers.

“Today marks an important milestone – one earned through years of hard work, perseverance, and determination,” said NSBS President and Presenting Officer Candee McCarthy. “You should be proud of what you have accomplished, and I hope you take some time to celebrate with the family and friends who supported you along the way. None of us reaches this point alone.”
The day was filled with gratitude, celebration, and an overwhelming sense of pride from admittees and their supporters.

“I know it was a lot of hard work,” said one of this year’s bar admittees, “and I’m glad this day has come.”
After their respective ceremonies, admittees were asked to sign the Roll of Lawyers and received their certificate, officially marking the commencement of their legal careers in Nova Scotia.
The Honourable Deborah K. Smith, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia, had the following to say to this year’s admittees:
“As Nova Scotia’s newest lawyers, you are about to take on important responsibilities. Courts are important public institutions in our democratic society […] Beyond the work you will do on behalf of your clients, you will also play a vital role in ensuring public respect for the courts. It is incumbent on you, as officers of the court, to help educate others about the rule of law and the importance of independent public institutions. […] As you transition into your legal career, always be sure to enjoy what you’re doing, take advantage of opportunities that present themselves, and don’t be afraid to keep learning from others”
Congratulations to the newest members of the Nova Scotia Bar. We wish them all the best in their legal careers in the province.
