The following notice to the profession has been posted on behalf of the Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service.
The Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service (PPS) would like to advise counsel of an upcoming enhancement to the disclosure process relating to Body-Worn Camera (BWC) evidence.
As part of the organization’s transition to the Axon Evidence.com platform, counsel will begin receiving BWC disclosure through an additional secure digital method. This process will supplement — not replace — the current secure file transfer process of MOVEit currently utilized for disclosure distribution.
Who will this impact?
This change will affect all counsel managing criminal code related files or charges laid under provincial statutes investigated by the PPS where BWC evidence forms part of the disclosure package.
When will this change take place?
The implementation of the Axon Evidence.com platform will occur progressively across the province throughout June 2026. The tentative rollout schedule is as follows:
- Yarmouth: Counsel may begin receiving BWC disclosure through Evidence.com any time after May 25, 2026. Disclosure links will be shared directly to counsel via email. Shared links will remain active for 30 days, during which time counsel will be required to access and download the material to their own case management systems. If access is not completed within that timeframe, a new disclosure link may be requested through PPS.
- Dartmouth: BWC disclosure originating from the Cole Harbour RCMP detachment is tentatively expected to begin after June 1, 2026, following the same process outlined above.
- Remaining Locations: Provincial rollout to all remaining locations is tentatively expected to begin after June 11, 2026.
How does this affect defence counsel?
Following implementation, BWC disclosure originating from law enforcement agencies utilizing Axon Body-Worn Cameras will be provided through secure Evidence.com shared links rather than through the current MOVEit secure file transfer service.
Please note that MOVEit will continue to be utilized for all other disclosure materials not involving Axon BWC evidence.
Additionally, disclosure from non-Axon camera systems (such as WatchGuard or other third-party platforms) may continue to be provided through alternate methods, including:
- MOVEit secure transfer,
- USB storage devices, or
- external hard drives.
To assist with this transition, a step-by-step guide outlining how to access and download files through Evidence.com will accompany disclosure packages shared through the platform.
Why are we making this change?
This transition supports the broader implementation of Axon Body-Worn Camera technology within policing operations. The Axon Evidence.com platform provides secure, centralized digital evidence management that enhances transparency, accountability, and efficiency throughout investigative and disclosure processes.
The platform also supports more reliable evidence handling, improved case preparation timelines, and more accessible digital disclosure practices across the justice system.
Who should you contact if you have additional questions?
Should you have any questions or require assistance regarding this transition, please contact the Digital Evidence Management Team (DEM Team) at ppsdemteam@novascotia.ca.
The DEM Team will be pleased to assist with any technical or procedural inquiries relating to this new disclosure method.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation and patience as we continue to modernize and enhance digital disclosure practices across the province.
