Terrance Sheppard KC will be joining council as a member in the Halifax District for the remainder of the council term. The Nominating Committee made their unanimous recommendation to Council, which was approved in the November Council Meeting.
The Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society is pleased to announce that Josie McKinney is the first recipient of the Society’s Award for Mi’kmaq & Indigenous Peoples Excellence in the Legal Profession (AMIE).
We’re pleased to announce that Shawna Paris-Hoyte O.N.S., KC is the recipient of the Society’s 2022 Distinguished Service Award (DSA).
Established in 1999, the Distinguished Service Award is presented to a member who has made significant contributions to their community, the legal profession, and the Society.
The Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society will close its office on Friday, September 30 in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a federal holiday to recognize and reflect on the tragic history and ongoing legacy of residential schools.
To learn more about barriers resulting from gender-based discrimination and harassment in the present, the Society’s Gender Equity Committee designed and distributed an online questionnaire to members in 2019. This report summarizes these findings and our next step is to research and consider what recommendations the Committee will make to Council and the Society to address the issues and what these results have uncovered.
