Summer Position – Law Student
Employer Advisor Nova Scotia Society (OEA NS) provides programs and services that reach all employers in Nova Scotia. We have a summer poition opening for full time law school student from Atlantic Canada. The position is available from May 1, 2023, until end of August 2023 at our Bedford, Nova Scotia location.
Serving employers in Atlantic Canada, Employer Advisor Nova Scotia (OEA NS) is a not-for-profit Society and also is registered with the Nova Scotia Barristers Society. We navigate employers, business associations, groups and agencies, with assistance, advice, representation, advocacy and education. We are involved in human resources management and provide legal assistance and representation through our team of lawyers. Our programs and services address workplace health and safety, investigations into complaints, workers’ compensation issues, appeals, harassment investigations, training, workplace policy development for best practices and workplace safety.
OEA NS Society is governed by an independent sector-based Board of Directors. In this position you will navigate real issues, acquire new skills and understanding in the area of employment law.
This summer student candidate will collaboratively work within our existing interdisciplinary team. Specific areas of responsibility will include conducting legal research, assisting with Board and operational projects, assisting to draft policies for employers, assisting with file administration, preparing articles for our newsletter and the possibility of attending hearings with our lawyers to observe and gain additional experience in the litigation environment. We are looking for someone always focussed on customer service, who exhibits superb interpersonal and conflict management skills, tact, good judgement at all times. Your writing skills match your interpersonal skills for extremely high accuracy and quality. You work well within a team environment and are punctual and prepared for meetings and appointments. A valid driver’s license is required for occasional outside appointments.
