Membership Services
We support over 2,000 members throughout their careers.
Our members fall into the following categories:
- Practising Lawyer: A lawyer who may practice law in Nova Scotia.
- Non-practising and Retired: Lawyers who were formerly practising but are now not entitled to practice law in Nova Scotia.
- Articled Clerk: A member who is enrolled in the Society’s Bar Admission program. Articled clerks may only practise law under supervision.
- Canadian Legal Advisors (CLAs): Québec lawyers who qualify to practise in Nova Scotia as Canadian Legal Advisors (CLAs) – review the Conditions to Qualify.
Changing Membership Categories

Readmission
A person who has resigned from the Society, and who is not a member of another law society in Canada or who has been disbarred may apply to be readmitted.
Law Corporations & Limited Liability Partnerships
Application for law corporation permit, annual renewal and statement of particulars, law corporation procedures, fees and more.
Information for Principals
A Principal is a lawyer, law firm or office of a law firm that has more than one office in the province who agrees to train and supervise an articled clerk. Find related information here.
Online LRA Program
We offer the Online Land Registration Act Qualification Assessment. This program evaluates the competency of lawyers who wish to work in the Land Registration online system.
