The Nova Scotia Real Estate Commission invites licensees and members of the public to submit their name to serve on Commission committees for a one year term (2026-2027).
Submissions are now open for the following committees:
- Commercial Committee
- Complaints Review Committee and the Complaints Appeal Sub-Committee
- Discipline Committee
- Education Committee
- Forms Committee
- Licensing Committee
Committee members play an important role in strengthening consumer confidence and helping shape the future of real estate regulation in Nova Scotia.
Committee service offers an opportunity to:
- contribute to the real estate industry and public trust;
- share your professional experience and perspective;
- gain governance and regulatory experience; and
- support the development of industry standards and practices.
Committee Participation
Committee membership is open to licensees and members of the public, including lawyers.
All committee meetings are held virtually via Zoom, allowing individuals from all regions of Nova Scotia to participate. Most meetings are approximately 1–2 hours in length.
Time commitments vary depending on the committee. The Complaints Review, Education, and Licensing committees meet four times annually, while the Commercial, Discipline, Complaints Appeal Sub-Committee, and Forms Committee only meet on an as-needed basis. Review of agendas and materials in advance of meetings is required and those time commitments vary depending on the committee and agenda of the committee at the time. In the case of a hearing, members of the Discipline Committee may serve in a one-to-three-day hearing, and spend additional time spent writing the hearing panel decision.
More About the Committees
The Commercial Committee’s role is to address matters of interest to commercial real estate licensees, such as the organization of educational events for commercial licensees.
The Complaints Appeal Sub-Committee’s role is to consider any request from a complainant for a review of a decision by the Registrar to dismiss a complaint; and following the review, making a written report to the Registrar and promptly advising the complainant and the respondent, in writing, of the results of its review to either uphold the dismissal or refer the matter back to the Registrar for consideration of new information or further investigation. Individuals who submit their name to serve on the Complaints Review Committee will also be considered for the Complaints Appeal Sub-Committee.
The Complaints Review Committee’s role is to review all of the Registrar’s complaint decisions, including proposed settlement agreements, no charges, and any dismissed complaints. The CRC may accept, reject or make recommendations to amend the decisions.
Members of the Discipline Committee serve to form a roster for hearing panels in the event of a discipline hearing. The committee’s role is to hold discipline hearings and render decisions about alleged infractions of licensees, including unprofessional conduct, and breaches of the Real Estate Trading Act, the Regulations and the By-law.
The Education Committe’s role is to identify issues and opportunities relating to the development and delivery of continuing professional education.
The Forms Committee’s role is, at the direction of the Board, to review and revise mandatory forms, and when necessary, create new forms and recommend their approval to the Board.
The Licensing Committee is responsible for setting entrance standards for the industry that promote professionalism, ethical conduct, and integrity. The committee serves as an independent review panel to hear appeals of the Registrar’s decision to deny a licensing application. The committee makes recommendations to the Board of Directors on licensing issues. The committee is also tasked with ensuring the Commission’s licensing processes are fair and transparent.

Selection of Committee Members
After the submission deadline, applications will be reviewed by the Board Chair, the Registrar, and the respective committee chair. Final committee appointments will be approved by the Board of Directors at its July meeting, after which all applicants will be contacted by Commission staff.
To be eligible to serve on a committee, licensees must be in good standing pursuant to Commission By-law 225:
(a) Hold a valid real estate licence;
(b) Not have been convicted of an offence pursuant to the Act, the Regulations, or the By-law resulting in
(i) a disciplinary suspension within the past 10 years; or
(ii) a disciplinary licence restriction; or
(iii) a fine greater than $500 within the past two years; or
(iv) a fine of $500 or less within the past year.
(c) Not be a director, officer, board member or employee of another real estate organization whose role is to defend the interests of the industry.
The Board of Directors encourages participation from individuals with diverse professional backgrounds, experiences, perspectives, and geographic representation.
The deadline to apply is 4:30pm on Friday, June 5, 2026. Submissions received after the deadline will not be considered.
Current committee members wishing to serve another term are still required to submit their name.
