The Opportunity
Engage in the pure practice of law. Free from the administrative and business development demands of private practice, you will focus on client advocacy, strategic legal advice, and advancing matters through to trial, while working alongside experienced colleagues in a collaborative, high-performing environment.
What You’ll Do
Primary Responsibilities
- Defend litigation claims in areas of automobile personal injury; occupiers’ liability cases; construction claims; professional negligence claims;
- Provide support and legal opinions to Claims;
- Handle all aspects of litigation from the filing of pleadings, to attending at examinations for discovery, arguing motions, attending settlement conferences/mediations and running trials.
Qualifications
- Called to the bar in the province of Nova Scotia;
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a litigation role.
What You’ll Bring
- Professionalism, strong work ethic, and excellent interpersonal skills;
- Experience as litigation counsel together with insurance law;
- Proven capability to handle complex litigation through to trial or arbitration;
- Strong technical claims knowledge;
- Deep understanding of current insurance law issues;
- Comprehensive understanding of Canadian legal processes.
