Legal Counsel – Allshores (Halifax)

Allshores is seeking a talented and commercially minded Legal Counsel to join our Legal & Compliance team. This role will be responsible for helping manage legal and regulatory risk across the Group’s operations in Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Europe, and other Caribbean jurisdictions.

This is an exciting opportunity for a lawyer who enjoys working closely with business leaders, supporting strategic growth initiatives, engaging with regulators, and providing practical legal advice in a dynamic, multi-jurisdictional environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting corporate governance, transactions, regulatory matters, and the day-to-day legal needs of the Group.

Primary Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice on applicable laws and regulatory requirements, including insurance regulation, corporate law, economic substance, trusts, sanctions, AML, regulatory licensing, data protection
  • Take a leadership role for supporting growth initiatives, including acquisitions, partnerships, product launches, market expansion and entry into new jurisdictions.
  • Interface with regulators on a regular basis to maintain and enhance regulatory relationships in conjunction with the Head of Compliance and Head of Regulatory Reporting
  • Draft, review, negotiate and advise on commercial agreements and other legal documentation
  • Monitor, consider and advise on legal and/or regulatory developments and their impact on The Group
  • Communicate to stakeholders legal and regulatory risk and issues involved in any business decision
  • Support in the preparation of regulatory submissions and communications
  • Assist in the development of policies, procedures and controls
  • Participate in legal and compliance projects and initiatives at a Group level
  • Support improvement of standard form agreements and legal processes
  • Partner with business leaders to manage legal and regulatory obligations and implement required regulatory change
  • Support corporate governance activities including board and committee governance, corporate filings, minutes, resolutions and regulatory documentation.
  • Assist in developing and delivering legal training
  • Provide corporate support on transactions, acting as a strategic partner for the business on key initiatives

Skills & Experience:

  • Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 2 years’ post qualification experience
  • Experience interacting directly with regulators is an asset
  • Experience supporting M&A, reorganizations or market expansion initiatives an asset
  • Strong technical ability and strategic thinking
  • Strong communication skills, delivering technical knowledge and advice in an impactful way to stakeholders.
  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Motivated, organized and enthusiastic/personable
  • Ability to establish strong rapport with internal stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions, and develop sound and trusted relationships at Group level
