Chester Law is a full-service law firm located in the heart of Chester on Nova Scotia’s beautiful South Shore. We are seeking a legal assistant to join our growing team. This role offers the opportunity to work across a variety of practice areas, with a primary focus on criminal law and civil litigation. It is an excellent position for someone who enjoys diverse, fast-paced, and engaging legal work.
Job Description
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Drafting, proofreading, and compiling court documents, disclosure, forms, and correspondence in an accurate and efficient manner;
- Communicating with clients by phone, email, and in person to collect information and coordinate meetings with the legal team;
- Managing deadlines and court dates across multiple files;
- Assisting with data entry and billing;
- Performing general office and clerical duties; and
- Carrying out other related duties as required.
The position will primarily support the firm’s criminal and civil litigation team. However, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of matters and gain experience across multiple areas of law.
Our Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience in criminal law and civil litigation;
- An interest in family law, estate law and estate planning;
- Experience working with the Microsoft Office Suite;
- Experience working with Clio is considered an asset;
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills;
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn;
- The ability to manage time effectively, meet deadlines, and prioritize tasks; and
- Strong listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.

The successful candidate will be required to obtain a security clearance, which is necessary for work on contract files. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
