The following call for applications has been posted on behalf of the Government of Nova Scotia’s ILA Program.
The Independent Legal Advice (“ILA”) Program provides survivors of sexual assault with up to four hours of free, confidential legal advice from an independent lawyer. To be eligible, participants must be 16 years of age or older at the time they access the program, and the sexual assault must have occurred in Nova Scotia. Intake and registration are facilitated through 211 Nova Scotia, an independent organization, to protect participant privacy. After registering, participants are provided with a list of eligible ILA lawyers whom they may contact directly.
We are currently seeking to expand and diversify our roster of ILA lawyers across the province and are actively recruiting those who may be interested in joining the roster.
Review the ILA Lawyer Application Form here.
For payment, the program follows the hourly rate of Nova Scotia Legal Aid Lawyers. Those with fewer than five years of experience are paid $120 per hour, and lawyers with five or more years of experience are paid $140 per hour. The training rate remains $95 per hour.
If you have any questions or would like more information, please feel free to contact us at vicservices-ila@novascotia.ca. We would also be happy to arrange a brief presentation or information session for anyone interested in learning more about the program.
