Notice to the Profession: New Mandatory Anti-Money Laundering Course

The Society has implemented a mandatory requirement for lawyers who handle client funds to complete the Federation of Law Societies of Canada’s online Anti-Money Laundering course.

NSBS launch Regaining Trust Website on Ruck Report Anniversary

The Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society is marking one year since the release of Regaining Trust: The Ruck Report with the launch of a new dedicated site showcasing its ongoing implementation progress

The next application for disposal of undistributed trust funds will be made in November 2025. Deadline: November 21, 2025

Nominations Open: Distinguished Service Award 2025

Nominations are now open for our 25th annual NSBS Distinguished Service Award. Both lawyers and members of the public may submit nominations. Deadline: November 28, 2025

Opportunities and Calls for Interest

Second VP for 2026-2027 Term: Call for Expressions of Interest

The Society’s Nominating Committee is now seeking expressions of interest for the 2026-2027 Second Vice-President in the months to come. Members from all regions across Nova Scotia are invited to provide recommendations or to volunteer to be considered.

Recruitment for Legal Membership at the Nova Scotia Health Research Ethics Board

The Nova Scotia Health Research Ethics Board (REB) is recruiting new members to fill the role of legal representatives on their virtual provincial board. The REB’s role is to review cutting-edge clinical research at Nova Scotia Health that involves human participants, or their data, and to ensure that the research respects and protects research participants, patients, and communities.

We offer an online form whereby members of the public may provide details relating to a family member’s Will, should they be unable to locate it.
