Recruitment for Legal Membership at the Nova Scotia Health Research Ethics Board

The Nova Scotia Health Research Ethics Board (REB) is recruiting new members to fill the role of legal representatives on their virtual provincial board. The REB’s role is to review cutting-edge clinical research at Nova Scotia Health that involves human participants, or their data, and to ensure that the research respects and protects research participants, patients, and communities.

Legal members are persons knowledgeable in the relevant law (i.e. health, privacy) and cannot be part of Nova Scotia Health’s legal counsel or risk management. They represent the legal and ethical perspectives of research participants. The role of legal members is to ensure that the information provided to research participants is correct and easy to read and understand. Legal members are not expected to understand the science behind the studies. Other Board members will simplify the research study protocols so all members understand what is happening with the study and what is expected from the research participants.

WHEN: Meetings are held once per month on Mondays from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

WHERE: Virtually through ZOOM. Links and materials will be sent by email.
