The Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society has launched a fully redesigned website, nsbs.org, marking a major milestone in its ongoing work to build public trust and strengthen access to Nova Scotia’s legal profession.
The new website was developed in partnership with Halifax-based consultancy Nava Develop Inc., and reflects the Society’s strategic commitment to accessibility, clarity, and transparency. The colours, typography, and layout all reflect these principles, presenting the Society as both approachable and authoritative.
“The new nsbs.org is more than a technical upgrade — it’s a symbol of how we serve the public,” said Cheryl Hodder, KC, CEO of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society.
“Every design decision was guided by our strategic vision: to make our services more accessible, our processes more transparent, and our role as regulator clearer to all.”
The previous website, which had grown to more than 600 pages, included two homepages and two search engines — one for lawyers and one for the public. The new site merges all content into a single, user-friendly platform with a unified search function, modern responsive design, and improved navigation tools such as anchor-link menus on resource-heavy pages.
Visitors will find streamlined sections including:
- Practice Support & Resources – offering easier access to tools for lawyers and law firms;
- Equity Lens Toolkit – a visually engaging, accessible framework supporting equity-focused decision-making; and
- How We Help the Public – tools to help the public navigate the legal system with details on finding legal help, locating wills, and filing complaints.
The site is now live at nsbs.org. Ongoing content refinement will continue as part of the Society’s commitment to continuous improvement and accessibility.
