The CBA-NS branch, together with the NSBS, made the difficult decision to withdraw from the July 20 Halifax Pride Parade. We want to provide the context behind this decision.
Our decision to withdraw our entry in the Halifax Pride Parade was made out of an abundance of caution, due to the safety risks associated with this event. We have been closely following the available information on a potential demonstration during the parade, and any associated counter-protests that may form. We have an obligation to ensure that our employees and members are safe in all circumstances, and this responsibility informed the very difficult decision to withdraw from the parade this year, as an organization. Similar safety concerns have been raised for Pride festivals in cities across Canada, and we felt the risk was too great to justify our organizations’ participation in the event.
We understand that this decision is upsetting and regret any harm our members may experience based on this decision. We remain committed to supporting the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, particularly in the face of increased hatred and violence.

CBA-NS & NSBS Pride Reception: July 24, 2024
If you are in the Halifax area next Wednesday, July 24, 2024, we hope you can join us for Legally Proud — our annual CBA-NS & NSBS Pride Reception at the Prince George Hotel! We are delighted to feature Alex Ash, Executive Director of Chroma NB, who will discuss how the legal community can actively affirm and advance the rights of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth.
We look forward to bringing our community together for this reception on the beautiful Prince George rooftop patio. This reception is FREE to attend. ALL members of the legal community are welcome.
