Alonzo Wright is Senior Crown Counsel with the Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service, in its Special Prosecutions Section in Halifax. His focus is on complex commercial crime and other major case files involving organized crime, homicides, cyber crime and sexual assaults.
Alonzo was elected to Council in 2011 and 2013 as a Member At Large, and was re-elected in 2015 to represent Halifax District. He currently serves on the Society’s Provincial Court Liaison Committee and the Lawyers’ Fund for Client Compensation Committee. He has also served on the Credentials Committee. He was called to the Bar in 1995.
A volunteer basketball coach at the Gottingen Street Community “Y” from 2002 to 2012, he has also been involved in numerous Community “Y” committees, including Funds Development. From 2006 to 2014, Alonzo held the position of Vice President of Basketball Nova Scotia. In the past, he has served on the Boards of Directors for Phoenix House, the Youth Alternative Society and the CIAU “Final 8" Steering Committee.
Within the PPS, Alonzo regularly volunteers to take on extra work for outside regions, participates in interviewing and selecting new members of the Service, and he also mentors less experienced Crown attorneys.
In 2004, Alonzo was granted the prestigious A. Gordon Archibald Award for Outstanding Adult Volunteer for the Metro YMCA organization. In 2007, he received the Community “Y” Director’s Award for “Outstanding Dedication to Youth and Love for the Game”.
