NSBS Committee Opportunities: Equity Committee Openings

The NSBS is seeking new members to join our Disability Equity Committee and Truth & Reconciliation Equity Committee.

Learn more about each committee below.

Disability Equity Committee

The Disability Equity Committee supports Council in the governance of the Society and in advancing Council’s strategic framework. It exists to both recognize the existence of ableism and discrimination, and to advance full accessibility and inclusion for all connected to the legal profession including those seeking access to legal services. In doing this work it is mindful of the obligations and spirit of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Anyone with questions can contact Archie Kaiser, Chair (archie.kaiser@dal.ca), or Marla Brown, Director of Equity & Access (mbrown@nsbs.org).

Truth & Reconciliation Equity Committee

The Truth and Reconciliation Equity Committee advises, monitors, and supports Council in the work and governance of the Society on Truth & Reconciliation. It is established with a mandate to make recommendations to Council on a response to the Calls to Action #27 & 28. In developing recommendations for consideration by Council, the Committee will consider the role of the NSBS in responding to the Calls to Action 27 & 28 (including collaborating with the Dalhousie Law School and specifically the Indigenous Black and Mi’kmaq Initiative) and the value in supporting any activities the NSBS may undertake.

Anyone with questions can contact Marla Brown, Director of Equity & Access (mbrown@nsbs.org).
