NOTICE: AUGUST 15, 2024 LUNCH EVENT CANCELLED
We Welcome Your Written Input
The Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society invites lawyers to provide feedback on the Federation of Law Societies of Canada’s (FLSC’s) Model Code Standing Committee’s proposed Code amendments in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Call to Action 27, which states the following.
We call upon the Federation of Law Societies of Canada to ensure that lawyers receive appropriate cultural competency training, which includes the history and legacy of residential schools, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, Treaties and Aboriginal rights, Indigenous law, and Aboriginal–Crown relations. This will require skills-based training in intercultural competency, conflict resolution, human rights, and anti-racism.
Unfortunately, we had to cancel our August 15th lunch event due to low registration, but we still want to receive your comments on this important matter.
Please send your input to info@nsbs.org using the subject line: “Model Code Amendments”. Thank you for your engagement with this process. We look forward to sharing the results.
