Regulatory Analyst – IESO Nova Scotia

Who we are

IESO Nova Scotia is a new organization created by the Nova Scotia Government that began operations in 2025. IESO Nova Scotia will reform the way Nova Scotia’s energy system is managed by assuming responsibility for managing the power system in real-time, achieving clean energy goals and planning for the province’s future energy needs.

Role Summary

This person will report directly to the Director, Regulatory Affairs, and will support IESO-NS’s growing regulatory and stakeholder engagement requirements by assisting with regulatory applications, hearings, and strategic initiatives. In the role of Regulatory Analyst, you will be joining a world-class team that is committed to energizing Nova Scotia, developing our electricity system, and keeping the lights on.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with internal SMEs on regulatory initiatives
  • Assisting with developing regulatory strategy
  • Drafting applications, information request responses, reply evidence, etc.
  • Supporting NSEB written hearings
  • Assisting the management of NSEB oral hearings
  • Contributing to the development of engagement strategy and plans
  • Gathering and addressing stakeholder feedback issues
  • Assisting with the development of broad regulatory strategies, in consultation with Director, Regulatory Affairs, and/or General Counsel
  • Coordinating and collaborating with various cross functional teams
  • Effectively communicating regulatory expectations throughout the organization

You are:

  • A post-secondary graduate with an education in engineering, finance, or law preferable
  • Equipped with a minimum of 3 years of experience in working in a regulated utility or government organization
  • Strong understanding of regulatory principles in the energy field
  • Excellent reading and writing comprehension
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to create and maintain strong working relationships both internally and externally
  • Ability to maintain cool in high-pressure situations
  • Ability to effectively progress IESO initiatives in a high-stakes stakeholder environment
  • A highly motivated self-starter who takes initiative
  • Well organized and invested in the details
  • Resourceful when it comes to solving problems
  • A critical thinker able to manage complex information
  • Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and changing environments
