Notice of Adjournment of Hearing: Christopher Robinson

The hearing respecting charges against Christopher Ian Robinson, a member of the Society, scheduled to resume on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 has been adjourned, with consent of the parties, by Order of the Hearing Panel of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society dated May 26, 2022.  New dates for the resumption of this hearing will be determined as soon as practicable.

The Society charges Christopher Ian Robinson, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, with professional misconduct in that he breached provisions of the Code of Professional Conduct (the “Code”), and the Legal Profession Act (the “Act”) and the Regulations made thereunder. 

Specifically, it is alleged that:

  1. Contrary to Chapter 2.1-1 and 2.1-2 and to Chapter 5.1-1, 5.1-5, and 5.6-1 of the Code, Christopher Ian Robinson (1) failed to discharge with integrity the duties and responsibilities he owed to clients, the court, the public and other members of the profession, (2) conducted himself in a way that reflected adversely on the integrity of the profession and the administration of justice, (3) failed to treat the court with candour, fairness, courtesy, and respect, (4) failed to be courteous and act in good faith to the tribunal and all persons with whom he had dealings, and (5) failed to encourage public respect for the administration of justice in the manner in which he conducted himself in the matter of Gallagher Holdings Limited v. Unison Resources Incorporated
  2. Contrary to Chapter 2.1-1 and 2.1-2 and Chapter 7.2-1 of the Code, Christopher Ian Robinson (1) failed to discharge with integrity the duties and responsibilities he owed to clients, the court, the public and other members of the profession, (2) conducted himself in a way that reflected adversely on the integrity of the profession and the administration of justice, and (3) failed to be courteous and civil and act in good faith with opposing counsel by engaging in aggressive and/or disrespectful behaviour. 
  3. Contrary to Chapter 2.1-1 and 2.1-2, Chapter 6.3-4, and Chapter 7.2-1 of the Code, Christopher Ian Robinson (1) failed to discharge with integrity the duties and responsibilities he owed to clients, the court, the public and other members of the profession, (2) conducted himself in a way that reflected adversely on the integrity of the profession and the administration of justice, (3) engaged in a form of personal and/or gender harassment, and (4) failed to be courteous and civil and act in good faith with opposing counsel. 
  4. Contrary to Chapter 2.1-1 and Chapter 5.1-5, and 5.6-1 of the Code, Christopher Ian Robinson (1) failed to discharge with integrity the duties and responsibilities he owed to clients, the court, the public and other members of the profession, (2) failed to be courteous and act in good faith to the tribunal and all persons with whom he had dealings, and (3) failed to encourage public respect for the administration of justice during the cross examination of WB during the trial of the Gallagher Holdings Limited v. Unison Resources Incorporated  matter.
  5. Contrary to Chapter 3.2-2 and Chapter 7.2-4 of the Code, Christopher Ian Robinson failed to be honest and candid and failed to inform his client of all information known to him that may affect the interests of his client and sent correspondence to his client that was abusive, offensive, or otherwise inconsistent with the proper tone of professional communication from a lawyer.

TAKE NOTICE that at the Hearing of this complaint, the Hearing Panel may be asked to make a finding of professional misconduct against Christopher Ian Robinson on the basis of any evidence brought before the Hearing Panel.

The Hearing continues to be open to the public in accordance with Section 44(1) of the Legal Profession Act.  Note that, at any Hearing, preliminary motions, regarding publicity ban or otherwise, may be heard and/or a settlement agreement may be proposed.
