Serve on the Advisory Committee on Provincial Judicial Appointments

The Society is seeking two members to serve on the Advisory Committee on Provincial Judicial Appointments.

The Advisory Committee on Provincial Judicial Appointments (the “Committee”) evaluates candidates for appointment to the Provincial and Family Courts using the criteria set out in the Guidelines to Ensure Appointments Based on Merit (the “Guidelines”).

The Guidelines provide the Minister of Justice with the authority to appoint two of the Society’s members to the Committee.

The Minister will select the members and will consider:

  • geographic representation
  • gender balance
  • minority representation
  • representation of persons with a disability
  • interest in the administration of justice and public service

Be the Society's Nominee to the Judicial Advisory Committee for Nova Scotia (Federal)

The Society is seeking members who are interested in serving as our Nominee to the Judicial Advisory Committee for Nova Scotia (Federal).

We will submit three candidates to the Federal Minister of Justice for selection. The successful nominee will complete a two-year term starting June 1, 2019.

Potential nominees will be selected with the following considerations in mind:

  • geographic representation;
  • gender balance;
  • ethnic and cultural diversity;
  • representation of persons with a disability;
  • gender identity/expression and sexual orientation;
  • a clear understanding of the requirements and commitment to making a contribution to the judicial appointment process, and
  • strict adherence to confidentiality.

The Society’s Governance & Nominating Committee will vet applications before they are submitted to the Minister. The nominated candidates will be required to complete additional documents for the Federal Government.
