Call for Committee Expressions of Interest: 2019 - 2021

Printer-friendly version

The Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society’s strategic priorities are to transform regulation in the public interest, enhance access to legal services and the justice system in Nova Scotia and promote equity, diversity and inclusion in the legal profession. Council committees have a key role in advancing these strategic priorities.

The Society seeks to populate its committees with both members of Council and other people with skills that will enable committees to develop and carry out their work plans. Council committees should reflect and broaden the diversity of our profession and our communities. We will not only consider diversity of individuals based on geographic location and practice area, but also on gender, Indigenous identity, cultural identity, disability, sexual orientation and gender identity.

This year, the Governance & Nominating Committee will make recommendations to Council for individuals to be appointed to regulatory and Council committees generally for two-year terms commencing January 1, 2019. What follows is a brief description of vacancies to be filled, and the skills and attributes that are sought. A full description of committees and their terms of reference may be found at:

Individuals interested in being considered for appointments should send their expression of interest and completed skills and attributes matrix to the Executive Director by email at no later than Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 4pm.

Read the Committee Descriptions list for more details. You should describe the reasons for your interest in a particular committee and the skills/attributes/experience you could bring to that committee’s work. Then fill in the Skills and Attributes Matrix and send it along with your expression of interest.
