Recruiting volunteer lawyers for Refugee Sponsorship Support Program

The Refugee Sponsorship Support Program (RSSP) was launched in Ottawa in October 2015 and brings together pro bono lawyers, law students and sponsorship experts to offer direct support to Canadians seeking to sponsor Syrian refugees The SSP has three primary components:

  • A matching program, which provides sponsor groups with direct support from a pro bono lawyer and law students
  • A training program, which trains lawyers and law students on the completion of sponsorships, and provides ongoing support for their work through sponsorship experts
  • A public information program, which provides Canadians with easy-to-understand information regarding sponsorship

We are seeking interest from Nova Scotia lawyers who wish to offer pro bono services, to attend a training session in early 2016 (date TBD) to learn how you can contribute to our province’s refugee response. Please contact RSSP Halifax co-ordinators Elizabeth Wozniak at, or Sarah McInnes at to express your interest, and we will contact you with further training details.
