We are seeking nominations for the Award for Mi’kmaq & Indigenous Peoples Excellence in the Legal Profession (AMIE), which recognizes outstanding Mi’kmaq and Indigenous lawyers within Nova Scotia who have contributed to their community, their Nation, the legal profession and to the Society.
Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society offices will be closed on Monday, September 30, 2024 in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. October 1, 2024 marks the beginning of Nova Scotia’s 31st Mi’kmaw History Month.
Inspiring Future Indigenous Black & Mi’kmaq Lawyers Internship Pathways – Applications are now open to grades 10, 11, and 12 students—across Nova Scotia—who self-identify as Indigenous, Mi’kmaq, African Nova Scotian, or are of African descent.
NSBS Council is pleased to report it has accepted the Nominating Committee’s recommendations to appoint Michelle Kelly, KC as First Vice-President of the Society, and to nominate Candace McCarthy as Second Vice-President of the Society—both for the 2024-2025 Council year.
We are seeking members to act on a reduced fee or pro bono basis for members of the Society involved in the disciplinary process.
