Transactions Legal Assistant

Burchell Wickwire Bryson LLP (BWB), one of Halifax’s leading law firms, is seeking an experienced, highly skilled Transactions Legal Assistant to join our Transactions Group.

The Transactions Legal Assistant will enhance the effectiveness of the Transactions Group by providing support to our team of experienced paralegals and lawyers. Duties of the Transactions Legal Assistant will include:

• General administrative duties, including maintaining files (physical and electronic), scheduling appointments, and managing incoming and outgoing mail, e-mail, and telephone calls.

• Directly communicating (verbally, face-to-face, and in writing) with various parties including clients, lenders, government agencies, opposing solicitors and their staff.

• Opening files and ensuring accuracy and completeness of client/file information.

• Completing standard due diligence searches.

• Drafting legal documentation relating to corporate, commercial and real estate transactions under the direction of the paralegals.

• Assisting with annual renewals and registrations at the Registry of Joint Stock Companies.

• Assisting with both paper and electronic submissions in the Personal Property Registry and at the Land Registration Office.

• Conducting accounting related processes such as depositing funds and requesting trust cheques.

• Preparing closing books and reporting letters to clients and lenders.

• Closing files and ensuring all contents are scanned and saved to the electronic database.

• Other duties as required to assist the Transactions Paralegals with their day-to-day tasks.

What We’re Looking For:
We are seeking candidates who possess the following skills and qualifications:

• Post-secondary education in Paralegal or Administrative training or equivalent knowledge/experience.

• Prior legal or administrative experience considered an asset.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with Property Online, Registry of Joint Stocks, Personal Property Registry and/or ProLaw considered an asset.

• Proven ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with all team members.

• Strong analytical skills, problem solving and decision-making skills.

• Proactive attitude.

• Experience working in fast-paced environment with conflicting priorities.

• Demonstrated ability to provide superior client service.

• Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
