Member, Board of Directors

The Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia is seeking incredible people to support our mission of improving the quality of life for Nova Scotians affected by dementia, and to advance the search for the cause and cure. Dementia is one of the fastest growing healthcare issues of our time. More than 16,000 Nova Scotians live with the disease, and that number is expected to almost double in the next 30 years.

Our Board of Directors are looking for new members to guide and govern the organization’s mission. This Board is engaged, active and involved beyond quarterly meetings. Their responsibilities include stewardship, advocacy, fiduciary oversight, and collaboration with CEO John Britton and the rest of the Society.

We invite interested candidates with all skillsets to apply. Currently, we are specifically seeking an individual with a professional designation in law. The following are preferred, but not required:
– Personal connection to Alzheimer’s or other dementias
– Board governance experience
– Reside in a rural Nova Scotian community

The Society values diversity and inclusion and is committed to supporting equity deserving communities. We are dedicated to building an organization that reflects the diversity of the people and communities in which we live and serve, and to creating an environment where every individual feels a sense of belonging and has the opportunity to reach their potential.

We encourage applications from all qualified candidates including Aboriginal/Indigenous Persons, Black/African Nova Scotians, members of racially visible communities, persons with disabilities, persons of a minority sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, and women. Applicants are encouraged to self-identify in their cover letter. Please feel free to request accommodations as needed.

To apply, please contact us at alzheimer@asns.ca by November 1, 2024 with the subject line “Board Application.” Learn more about our Board here: https://alzheimer.ca/ns/en/board
