Position: Full-Time, Permanent, Bedford NS
Working as part of a team of lawyers and compensation professionals, legal counsel provides representation and advice to our membership on a full range of labour relations and related legal issues. The role involves acting as lead spokesperson in collective bargaining and presenting cases on behalf of member facilities before labour arbitration boards and other quasi-judicial boards. Other responsibilities include consultation and assistance in contract interpretation, grievance handling and other related labour law matters and employment law for those clients that participate in our employment law service. The role also includes leading and/or participating in provincial committees and forums and providing strategic advice to bring about effective outcomes for the broader system.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced labour lawyer (more than ten years’ experience) with demonstrated skills in collective bargaining and labour arbitration. Will consider candidates with significant client servicing, advocacy and negotiation experience in alternate settings where circumstances warrant. Exceptional communication, collaboration and client relations skills are a prerequisite. Candidates must have a Law Degree and are members in good standing of the Nova Scotia Barristers Society, or eligible for membership. Previous labour relations experience in the broader public sector environment including health care is an asset.
