Established in 1986, Metcalf & Company is a leading boutique law firm of 5 Lawyers located downtown Halifax. The law practice deals in areas of marine, transportation and increasingly renewable energies sector. The firm acts primarily in corporate and commercial, general litigation, Insurance law, admiralty and maritime law, procurement and administrative law and related litigation.

This is a full-time position with a highly collegial group of people. It is currently available owing to a retirement and will be filled as soon as possible. If you are interested, please apply with resume and cover letter.

1. Manage, coordinate, and ensure the smooth flow of work in the assigned lawyer(s) practice.

2. General administrative duties including incorporation and records management, scheduling and arranging appointments, and managing incoming and outgoing mail, e-mail, telephone calls, distribution of incoming mail, couriers as well as office supply orders.

3. Ensuring client inquiries are dealt with promptly and efficiently.

4. Other – Additional duties as assigned based on the firm’s requirements.


• Post-secondary education studies or equivalent knowledge/experience.
• Prior legal administrative experience in the areas of Corporate and Litigation, or as a Paralegal – an asset, but not necessary.
• Ability to work independently and also as part of a team.
• Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills, including spelling and grammar.
• Experience and proficiency with computer software packages including MS Office including Word, Outlook, Acrobat Abode Pro and Excel.
• Energetic, flexible, and willing to pitch in whenever necessary is an important part of our team.
