Salary: PR 7 $51,869.74 to $63,596.26

Who we are:
Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission (NSLAC) delivers quality legal aid services throughout the Province, providing some level of help to all Nova Scotians with a focus on assisting those who are systematically disadvantaged. NSLAC’s focus is in the practice areas of criminal, family, and social justice law.

NSLAC employs staff in 24 offices and 3 sub-offices throughout the Province. Our staff are comprised of Staff Lawyers, Legal Assistants, Paralegals, Court Support Workers, Social Workers, a Social Justice Support Worker, and a Prison Law Support Worker. Our staff help thousands of clients every year. We are committed to helping overcome historical and ongoing barriers to access to justice and our Staff Lawyers have litigated many important cases to protect the rights of individuals.

Primary Functions:
Reporting to the Director of Research, Analytics and Information Management (DRAIM), the Computer Services Officer (CSO) is responsible for providing helpdesk support and maintaining a reliable, secure, and effective computing and communications environment for employees of the NSLAC. This role must be able to provide back-up support to the Management Information Systems Officer (MISO).

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Management and support services of information systems: Microsoft 365 local and cloud environment, Case Management Systems and Financial Systems
• Ensures that the technology is running effectively, securely, and efficiently to meet the needs of all staff
• Ensures that computer software, hardware and network are available and reliable, and that problem situations are resolved expediently to user satisfaction in a timely manner
• Performs installation of hardware, software and other goods and services relative to IT use
• Maintains user computer access and administration of email services, including setting up new users and removal of computer access with staffing changes
• Onboarding of new employees familiarizing them with our IT system
• Assists with Database administration and the running of statistical reports from the Case Management System (CMS), Certificate Tracker System and other information systems when required.

• Be able to work with clients who have complex needs, creatively problem solve and work independently in a fast-paced environment as well as part of a team
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively
• Attention to detail and accuracy is required
• Compliance with NSLAC’s policies and procedures
• Demonstrated time management and ability to deal with conflicting priorities and deadlines
• Ability to investigate facts, identify issues, ascertain organizational objectives, consider alternative solutions, analyze risk, and advise clients
• Demonstrated ability to use latest communication technologies, such as Microsoft Office 365 products is required
• Knowledge of VMWare Virtualization Software (vSphere/ESXi), Windows systems and server environments
• Experience with Microsoft SQL, Oracle or Edge Progress is considered an asset
• Programming experience is considered an asset
• Demonstrated customer service skills in dealing with technical and non-technical individuals are considered an asset
• Must have a valid driver’s license and have the ability to travel across the Province is required.
