We are expanding our legal department with two new positions – an Associate General Counsel and a Commercial Legal Counsel – as part of our strategy to continue to provide the guidance, leadership, and sound legal advice necessary to maintain WorkSafeNB’s culture of excellence and caring.
At the direction of the General Counsel, the Associate General Counsel provides a full range of legal services to WorkSafeNB. This includes advice and opinions on corporate and commercial law, health and safety law, regulatory compliance, and the assessment and mitigation of risk. This role serves as the second-in-command to the General Counsel and is responsible for key leadership functions, including the continued development of attorneys and staff within the legal, privacy, decision review office, and policy departments. Leadership, mentorship, coaching, and development experience, along with a depth of corporate and commercial legal experience, is key to success in this role.
The Commercial Legal Counsel will report to the Associate General Counsel and will serve as a lead commercial lawyer for WorkSafeNB. The Counsel will lead the company’s preparation, review, negotiation, and process of contracts, including implementation of contract and document management systems and will support process improvement initiatives in this regard. The Counsel will be responsible for negotiating, writing, reviewing, summarizing, researching, and executing a wide variety of vendor and procurement agreements within a public procurement environment. Experience in federal, provincial, and/or municipal government procurement processes is highly preferred.
