FRAUD ALERT: Funds transfer scam attempt from “Peter Trowbridge” of “Onelegal Brokers”
We have received reports from several lawyers who received the following scam attempt from “Peter Trowbridge”. The message appears as below:
From: account @ onelegal.com
Subject: Transfer Confirmation
As per instruction,
We have transferred funds to your account as instructed by our client.
Attached herewith is confirmation of transfer. Please confirm receipt.

The links to the ‘Transfer Confirmation’ are disabled, likely to encourage the user to report this to the sender, therefore engaging them in the intended scam attempt. Please note that links and/or attachments in unsolicited emails should never be accessed.
This has been verified as a fraud attempt and can simply be dismissed and deleted.

Remember that you must always confirm a prospective client’s identification in accordance with the Client ID Regulations of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society.
If you decide to proceed with a transaction, be sure to go to the bank website to verify the branch transit number, address and phone number on the cheque. Wait until the bank confirms that the funds are legitimate and are safe to withdraw from the deposit. Where possible, use the Large Value Transfer System (LVTS), an electronic funds transfer system that allows large payments to be exchanged securely and immediately.
