There is an old adage that rings true:
“Give an insolvency practitioner a fish, you feed them for a day. Give them a file involving a complex commercial fishing operation and they would probably benefit from a legal overview of the industry.”
This session has been proposed based on our membership noting a rise in Atlantic Canadian insolvency files involving commercial fishing operations. Please join us on November 3, 2023, at 12:00 (noon) to hear Greg Rushton discuss the industry from a corporate law perspective.
Essentially an overview of what shoes, or boots, a trustee / lawyer may be stepping into when engaged with a file involving commercial fishing operations this PD session will address:
• how security is taken and registered;
• applicable licensing and the transfer process; and
• the unique considerations and regulations to be kept in mind when operating or transferring a commercial fishing business as a going concern.
Greg Rushton is a Partner at McInnes Cooper and based out of Sydney, Nova Scotia.
