The speaker is Alex Neve, Secretary General of Amnesty International Canada. The world faces the biggest refugee crisis we have seen in close to 70 years. Most attention has focused on the Syrian refugee crisis, but there are similar stories from Central Americans crossing through Mexico and Eritreans held hostage by gangs in the Sinai Peninsula.

While there have been encouraging moves toward a renewed commitment to refugee protection in Canada over the past year, most global governments are fixated on how to keep refugees out. Alex Neve will explore just how broken the global refugee system has become and what needs to be done to turn this mounting human rights crisis around.

This free and public lecture starts at 7pm in Room 104 in the Weldon Law Building (6061 University Avenue).
