IB&M Initiative's 25th Anniversary Gala Celebration
The Indigenous Blacks & Mi’kmaq (IB&M) Initiative at the Schulich School of Law, Dalhousie University invites you to join our 25th Anniversary Gala Celebration on the evening of Friday, March 6th, 2015 at the Westin Hotel.
The IB&M Initiative was launched in 1989 in response to the efforts of the Mi’kmaw People, African Nova Scotians, and Dalhousie Law School (as it was then known); and in response to the Royal Commission on the Donald Marshall Jr. Prosecution. The Initiative is designed to increase the representation of Indigenous Blacks and Mi’kmaq in the legal profession and includes community outreach, recruiting, student support, and mentoring. In 1989, out of the almost 1200 lawyers in Nova Scotia, there were only about a dozen Black lawyers and no Mi’kmaq lawyers. Today, there are over one hundred and fifty-five (155) law graduates who entered the Schulich School of Law through the IB&M Initiative and who have gone on to work with private law firms, government legal departments, legal aid, Aboriginal and other organizations, and in many other leadership capacities. We want to celebrate their success and to encourage more people from our communities to consider law as a career.
The Gala Celebration includes a reception featuring live music; a lovely meal with wine; and an evening celebration and entertainment. A souvenir 25th Anniversary Programme will be produced and distributed to the over 300 participants expected to attend the Gala. It will also form part of the IB&M Initiative’s promotional materials and as such will be distributed on an ongoing basis over the next five years. On behalf of the IB&M Initiative I would ask you to consider one or more of the following forms of support.
Please contact email@example.com or 902-494-1639 for more details.
- Placing an advertisement in the IB&M 25th Anniversary Commemorative Programme ($100-$1000);
