Please join the Society in celebrating excellence in Nova Scotia’s legal profession, as we present the 2014 Distinguished Service Award to Heather McNeill QC of the Dalhousie Legal Aid Service, and recognize Charlie MacIntosh QC and Edwin LeBlanc QC with their 60-Year Practising Certificates and David F. Curtis QC and David Grant with their 50-Year Practising Certificates.

The 2014 NSBS Presidents’ Leadership Award
Now articling with Weldon McInnis, Emilie Coyle received the award for her leadership qualities and volunteer efforts while attending the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University. Paul Calderhead, a second-year student, received an honorarium to intern at the Centre for Law and Democracy this summer.
The 2014 Race and the Law Essay Prize
Meaghan Mahadeo, a recent Schulich law graduate now clerking at the Federal Court of Canada in Ottawa, received the sixth annual prize for her paper, “What’s in a name?: An Analysis of the Politics of Band Membership Codes in the Canadian Indigenous Quest for Self-Determination.”
The Recognition Reception is an annual opportunity for the Society to honour lawyers and law students for their contributions that demonstrate the profession’s commitment to excellence and public service.
