Burke, Macdonald & Luczak is seeking a junior to mid level associate to join our busy practice.

Burke, Macdonald & Luczak is a law firm located in beautiful Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.  The firm, founded in 1978, has deep roots in our community. The bulk of our practice is in the areas of residential and commercial real estate transactions, municipal law, estate planning and administration, corporate and commercial transactions and family law.

The firm is located in the historic Wolff House, built by the first mayor of Lunenburg and located in the heart of Lunenburg, a UNESCO world heritage site. Available is a spacious office (with partial water views), separate assistant’s office, as well as a shared boardroom and a large kitchen. There is infrastructure for file digitization, remote access and Google G-suite mail/drive/calendar services. Within blocks of the office are the town hall, several banks and real estate brokerages, shops and restaurants, a gym and swimming pool and the historic Lunenburg waterfront. The golf course is across the harbour!

The firm seeks an associate with a minimum two years of experience to join our practice and expand the range of services available to our clients. While there will be some referral of solicitor work, the successful candidate will have experience and interest in developing a practice in at least some of: small claims court matters, per diem municipal prosecutions, contested family matters, collaborative family law, real estate litigation (trespass actions, quietings, boundary disputes, foreclosures), estate litigation and civil litigation. An existing client base will be considered a significant asset. We will assist with introductory and networking meetings and marketing. It is anticipated that the successful candidate may be offered partnership in the firm in due course.

The firm offers an unparalleled working environment in a sought-after community. Our lawyers are active in the community and in various bar organizations, and the firm regularly engages in pro bono work. In addition to a base salary and profit sharing (both commensurate with experience), the firm pays for the bar fees, CBA membership and CPD expenses, as well as medical/dental/optical benefits.
