2013 Call from Out-of-Province for Associate Position
I am a lawyer with membership in the Law Society of Saskatchewan seeking an associate position in Halifax. I have been enrolled in the LLM program at the University of Saskatchewan for the past two years; I anticipate my thesis defence date will be in September, and must find employment before that time. While I have found several prospective employers in other parts of Canada, I would like to stay in Halifax.
A National Mobility Transfer would allow me to practice in Nova Scotia. It is my understanding that the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society sometimes requires that transferred members complete a period of supervision with a member of the NSBS. See http://nsbs.org/sites/default/files/cms/policy-procedure/transferanothercdnjurisdiction.pdf
Before I restore my practicing status in Saskatchewan and apply for a National Mobility Transfer, I would like to consider my options of potential supervisors in the Halifax Regional Municipality.
While I am eager to learn nearly any area of practice, my particular interest areas are:
- Civil litigation and risk-management advising
- Regulatory offenses and regulatory compliance advising
- Criminal law
- Commercial liens and other secured transactions
- All aspects of employment law, including labour relations, occupational health and safety, and human rights accommodation
If your firm is considering hiring an associate, I look forward to hearing from you!
