Second Vice-President 2019-2020: Are you interested?

Printer-friendly version

The annual election for Second Vice-President is coming up. The Governance and Nominating Committee invites lawyers from outside HRM to think about the skills and attributes you could bring to the Society’s leadership.

The Governance and Nominating Committee must nominate a candidate for a Second Vice-President by the end of January 2019, and invites all eligible lawyers to provide recommendations or to volunteer to be considered.

In March of 2019 a Second Vice-President will be elected and will take office at the Annual Meeting in June 2019. The successful candidate will become First Vice-President in June 2020 and President in June 2021. According to the Legal Profession Act, nominees must reside and practise outside of Halifax, as both the incoming President and First Vice-President are from HRM. If leadership in the profession and making a contribution to the ongoing work of Council interests you, the Governance and Nominating Committee would like to hear from you.

Besides the ability to meet the expected time commitments, the Second Vice-President nominee will possess such characteristics as unquestionable integrity, respect for others, communication skills, strategic thinker, consensus builder, leadership skills, and commitment to the purpose and strategic direction of the Society.

The Society strives for diversity of leadership regarding personal characteristics, area of practice, and geographic location of the candidate.

If you are interested in being considered or wish to recommend someone for the Committee’s consideration, please contact the Chair of the Committee, Julia Cornish QC at jcornish@scclaw.ca or 902 466 2500 by Monday, December 17, 2018. You are welcome to speak to Ms. Cornish if you have questions about the position. All names will be considered and all contact will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
