2018 Society Election: Memo from the Governance and Nominating Committee
The annual election for Second Vice-President will happen in a few months, and the Governance and Nominating Committee invites you to think about the skills and attributes you could bring to the Society’s leadership. The Committee is looking now for potential candidates for the Second Vice-President role.
In March of 2018 a Second Vice-President will be elected. According to the Legal Profession Act, nominees can be from anywhere in Nova Scotia, as the incoming President and First Vice-President are from New Glasgow and Halifax, respectively. If becoming a leader in the profession and contributing to the ongoing work of Council interests you, the Governance and Nominating Committee needs to hear from you now.
The Governance and Nominating Committee must nominate a candidate for a Second Vice-President by the end of January 2018, and invites all lawyers to provide recommendations or to volunteer to be considered.
Besides the potential nominee’s ability to meet the expected time commitments (approximately 500 hours), the Second Vice-President nominee will possess such characteristics as unquestionable integrity, respect for others, communication skills, strategic thinker, consensus builder, leadership skills, and commitment to the purpose and strategic direction of the Society.
The Society strives for diversity of leadership regarding personal characteristics, area of practice, and geographic location of the candidate.
If you are interested in being considered for this position or wish to recommend someone for the Committee’s consideration, please contact the Chair of the Committee, R. Daren Baxter QC, TEP, at email@example.com or 902 444 8826 by Friday, December 1, 2017. All names will be considered and all contact will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
