Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, the Legal Counsel will be responsible for providing effective support and advice to the company on a range of legal matters. What’s not included? Docketing!

As Legal Counsel, you’ll get to:
• Drafting, managing and providing negotiation support on commercial leases and contracts.
• Providing legal guidance and advice on corporate matters, employment issues, regulatory matters, litigation and legal disputes, tax compliance, due diligence, insurance claims, legal and administrative processes and procedures, and other matters as they may arise.
• Completing, managing and providing support on corporate and property transactions.
• Overseeing corporate matters, including incorporations, annual renewals and maintenance of accurate minute books.
• Managing and overseeing litigation and legal disputes, including providing representation in Small Claims Court.
• Assisting with policy and procedure review and development.
• Remaining current with developments in the law and proactively proposing recommendations.
• Assuming responsibility for special projects and initiatives, as they may arise.
What we’re looking for:
• 1-3 years experience in a law firm environment or in house legal department.
• Completion of law school with a LLB or JD.
• Qualified to practice law in Nova Scotia.
• Prior experience with commercial leasing would be an asset, but no experience in this area should not discourage otherwise qualified applicants.
• Proven track record of problem-solving skills and informed decision-making.
• A strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Commitment to operate with the highest level of confidentiality and integrity on all files.
• Strong customer focus with dedication to teamwork and collaboration.
