The province has appointed Rodney Burgar as the new chair of the Nova Scotia Workers' Compensation Board. Mr. Burgar will take over from Chris Power who has been acting in the position since the departure of Elaine Sibson. The internal review into the escape of Marc Joseph Pellerin from Nova Scotia Sheriff's custody in early December is now complete. The review outlines the details of Mr. Pellerin's escape, and makes recommendations on what could have been done to prevent this and future incidents. It found that sheriffs did not follow proper policy and procedures and there was an equipment failure.  Read More

Nova Scotians with a speeding ticket and other summary offense tickets will now have the option of paying online. "This is part of a continued effort to make more government services available online," Justice Minister and Attorney General Diana Whalen said in a Jan. 19 announcement. "The option to pay online will reduce wait times and speed up processing times." Read More

(Ottawa, Ont. – January 25, 2016) -- The quadrennial Judicial Compensation and Benefits Commission has begun its inquiry into the adequacy of the salaries and benefits paid to federally appointed judges and to prothonotaries of the Federal Court. The Public Trustee of Nova Scotia is seeking a Will that may have been prepared for the late Stella Marie Clements. The Will would have been prepared within a few years after July 1973.
