As part of the Risk and Practice Management program, LIANS often distributes fraud notices so that lawyers do not inadvertently fall victim to increasingly elaborate schemes. Last month, the American Bar Journal reported that a lawyer in Iowa was suspended after arranging client loans to secure a Nigerian inheritance that was not forthcoming. Read More

An email has again been circulating to lawyers that falsely claims to be from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). The email will ask the user to send along their social insurance, credit card, bank account and passport numbers to obtain a refund. They are told that until they provide their sensitive personal information, the refund to which they are entitled will not be dispensed. Read More
