Sexual assault survivors often distrust and fear the criminal justice process; as a result, over 90% of sexual assaults go unreported in Canada. Sadly, the survivors' fears are well founded. At this event, Professor Elaine Craig of the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University will talk about her new book, Putting Trials on Trial: Sexual Assault and the Failure of the Legal Profession. It's a thorough evaluation of the legal culture and courtroom practices prevalent in sexual assault prosecutions, and it gives specific ways in which lawyers and judges should improve the sexual assault trial process without compromising the rights of the accused. A Q&A with Prof. Craig and a book signing will follow the lecture. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. and ends at 8:30 p.m.
