This three-day experiential workshop builds on the skills and processes taught in the Essentials of Conflict Resolution and Interest-Based Mediation. Through case studies, lectures and group discussions, participants will learn and practice advanced techniques and strategies for screening and assessment of the conflict and ways to best prepare themselves and the parties for successful mediation.
 
Topics will include:
  • Conducting effective information meetings
  • Screening for power imbalances and violence
  • Analysing the conflict and its suitability for mediation
  • Coaching the parties for collaborative decision-making
  • Identifying the key issues and interests to be addressed
  • Techniques for dealing with power imbalances
  • Preparing for mediation/co-mediation

KIRSTIN LUND – Instructor
Kirstin Lund, B.A., LL.B., is the CEO of Settlements Inc., providing services as a mediator, facilitator, and conflict resolution coach and trainer since 1996. From 1998 onwards, Kirstin collaborated in the development a UPEI Centre for Conflict Resolution Studies, and has since designed and taught numerous courses in mediation, family mediation, conflict resolution, restorative justice and communication skills. In 1998, she was one of the first in Canada to be certified as a Comprehensive Family Mediator by Family Mediation Canada and has been an Assessor for its national certification program since 2003.
 
She is a certified MBTI practitioner specializing in personality type and its impact on conflict management. She has worked in partnership to develop a uniquely restorative process for comprehensive and collaborative safety planning for women at high risk after leaving abusive relationships called Circles of Safety and Support. Kirstin is also a co-owner of Winding Path Inc., which offers leadership training, personal and professional development programs, planning and accountability coaching, strategic planning and customized team workshops and retreats.
