Please join us for a night of entertainment, food, drink and art in the Atrium of the Weldon Law Building on Dalhousie's campus. Each year, Pro Bono Dalhousie [(PBD)formerly PBSC] has hosted an annual art auction to support Weldon's pro bono projects. This year, PBD has given the Refugee Advocacy Association of Dalhousie (RAAD), a chance to host the event and raise money for the Halifax Refugee Clinic. PBD will continue the tradition and host again next year.A note about the recipient of our donations: The Halifax Refugee Clinic is a not-for-profit, non-governmental, community based organization that provides no-cost legal and settlement services to refugee claimants in Nova Scotia who are unable to afford the services of private legal counsel. This includes most people in Nova Scotia who have made claims for refugee protection. The Clinic was born out of the failure of both the federal and provincial governments to maintain funding to Nova Scotia Legal Aid to provide legal services to refugee claimants. Legal Aid service was discontinued a number of years ago and, in the interim years, many people appeared before the Immigration and Refugee Board without counsel, unable to understand the forms in English/French and not to mention the complex legal proceedings. The Halifax Refugee Clinic's mandate is to provide legal representation for those claiming refugee status in Nova Scotia. To ensure that they are given a fair opportunity to present their cases before the immigration and Refugee Board; and that throughout the process, their rights and their integrity are fully respected.RAAD is incredibly grateful for the opportunity and would love for as many community members, law students, the greater Dalhousie student body and friends and families to come out to this special event for a great cause!
